Every day, Del Silencio a la Libertad (DSL) provides education, emergency shelter, therapy, and legal support to survivors of sexual abuse — helping them move from silence to freedom.
As a community of families, individuals and businesses, we hope you see the need to protect the children who will soon be the bedrock on which our community rests. A thriving community cannot emerge when the foundations on which it is built are broken. And our children are broken.
Despite the government saying otherwise, the reality if that between 70 and 90% of children in our rural communities have been the victim on sexual abuse. 90%! How can this be, and how can we stop it? Well, DSL is stopping it, and we have big plans to do so across the country too…
DSL is a Costa Rican non-profit with 501(c)(3) status in the United States. We are 100% donation-funded, and every contribution directly supports survivors through our three core pillars:
Awareness & Education
Community and school-based training, prevention workshops, and awareness campaigns.
Shelter & Safety
Emergency safe housing, legal connections, and support for women and children in crisis.
Awareness & Education
Psychological care, spiritual guidance, and skill-building programs to help survivors rebuild their lives.
To continue providing these essential services, we need to raise $36,000 per year (or $3,000 per month) to cover our team, facilities, and community programs.
Your support ensures that every light stays on in our safe house, every workshop continues, and every survivor receives the care they deserve.

Fundraising is time consuming and expensive. We hope to resonate with people who are able to donate a regular amount so we can plan for the future. The future of our children.

We understand that a commitment to monthly giving can be hard, yet this is the best way to secure the future of DSL and the work we do.
We hope you can offer anything, however large or small. All donors will be sent regular updates on how their donations are helping the community, and be invited to events and discussions, you wish to attend, to understand more on the critical work we deliver.

On a personal note, working within this organization opens your eyes to the reality of child abuse in LATAM. Constantly exposed to the dark truth that this country, and beyond, is in the thrust of a deep, painful crisis — one that remains hidden behind closed doors and silent voices.
Yet in that darkness, I have also seen extraordinary courage. Survivors who stand up, speak out, and begin to heal remind me every day why this work matters. They are the reason we fight for awareness, justice, and hope.
